In his introduction to The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho says "we all need to be aware of our personal calling." It was not until the later years of my life that I discovered my personal calling, which is to be a writer. I believe in that calling now as passionately as I did when I first uncovered it buried deep within my soul.
My first work of serious writing was a novel based on my life as an Air Force fighter pilot during the Cold War and Vietnam years. Writing the book was fairly straight forward; but publishing it was not. The moment I typed the last sentence in the manuscript; the chorus of naysayers began. "You will never find an agent, or a publisher; and even if you do, your book will never sell."
The naysayers were right on the first two counts, but wrong on the third. I never did find an agent or a publisher because I didnt bother to look for one. Instead, I published it myself. To my surprise, it was a modest success. The name of the book is The Eagle's Last Flight, and you can read more about it by following this link The Eagle's Last Flight .
The internet is a blessing to unknown writers like myself. Five years ago, the chances of seeing my writing in print were remote. These days I can reach hundreds or even thousands of a readers with a click of my mouse. Although my stories often appear in magazines, I rely on the internet to distribute the constant stream of book reviews, local news, opinion pieces, and short stories I write each week.
Now that you are on my website I hope you will stay for a while and browse through some of my writing. After all, you are a reader, and readers are what we writers live for!
Sincerely,
